Repeat Prescriptions - "order in plenty of time" - we suggest a week before you run out

Your prescription may be renewed without necessarily seeing the doctor. This is known as a repeat prescription.

How do I order?

You can order your medication by clicking on the link above and filling in the form. Alternatively you can use the reorder slip that is usually provided alongside your prescription, or you can write out a handwritten request. We have a box attached to our outside wall at the front entrance that you can post requests into or you can hand them in at a local pharmacy who will then send them to us.

We do not accept prescription requests over the phone – this both ties up our telephone lines and also runs the risk of unnecessary error. If you are housebound and cannot use the above methods of ordering then in that case please phone us, making it clear you are housebound and require help.

When will my prescription be ready?*

If you collect your prescription from the practice, it will normally be ready within 2 working days from the date we receive your request. It can then be taken to a pharmacy of your choosing, but bear in mind that the pharmacy will require additional time.

If you have selected a local pharmacy that you wish us to send your prescription to for collection then it will normally be ready within 3-5 working days from the date we receive your request. This is why we suggest you order medication a week (5 working days) before you run out.

*The above information is a guide and there may be instances when prescriptions are ready outside of these guide times.

What if I need my medication urgently?

If you have run out of your medication and it is an item you get regularly on repeat, you should go to your usual pharmacy in the first instance and request an emergency supply. If they are unable to supply your medication for any reason then you can phone the practice and our reception team will do their best to help. Be aware that requests cannot be processed immediately so please do not request this of the reception staff.

Please help us to help you:

  • Think in advance
  • Order your medicines one week before you need them
  • Never let yourself run out of medicine
  • If there is a medicine listed on the request slip that you no longer take please inform us
  • Only order the medicines that you use
  • Remember to order your medicines in plenty of time before your holidays and the Christmas and New Year periods
