The Training Practice – information for prospective
registrars and students
The Practice has been a training practice since
1980. Both Dr Tina Chancellor and Dr Calum Urquhart act as Trainers for
our Registrars and Dr Jean Alexander manages the programme of training for
our students.
Prospective Registrars can
contact the Surgery to view the premises and meet the staff prior to
making an application.
The Surgery premises are
in a modern purpose built building with good parking facilities. We are
based on the outskirts of Inverness and serve a town and semi-rural
practice population of just over 4000 patients.
The Practice employs a
Retainer Doctor and a Practice Nurse, as well as having three GP
Partners.
Registrars and students are encouraged from the
outset to become fully integrated into the Primary Care Team. In the
first few weeks of training they accompany the Practice Nurse, Doctors,
District Nurses, Physiotherapist and the CPN. Throughout their time with
us, Practice Management training is undertaken both by the Practice
Manager and, more practically through attendance at the Partnership
meetings.
The Registrar has their
own large consulting room and all the equipment and facilities of a
training practice. The practice is fully computerised. There is a
well-stocked Library in the study. Postgraduate courses and facilities are
close at hand in the
North of Scotland Postgraduate Medical Centre, at
Raigmore Hospital, a couple of miles away in Inverness.
The Practice is part of an
out of hours co-operative which covers Inverness and Culloden.
Registrars are required to fulfil their out of hours commitment and are
rostered together with the other Partners. Students have an opportunity
to accompany a Doctor during an out of hours shift.
Inverness is a vibrant
City which has good shopping facilities and excellent leisure facilities.
For those interested in out door activities the Highlands has a host of
formal and informal activities
